Earlier this month, the one millionth Porsche 911 rolled off the production line; a Carrera S in Irish green with a manual transmission. Arguably the way that the 911 was intended.

Following the evolution of the brand from the plucky little punches-above-its-weight long-hood 911 through to today’s big-power bruiser turbocharged Carreras makes for a wild history lesson, but an important one. Reaching one million units is no mean feat and it’s a testament to the Porsche 911’s staying power. The car has only managed to stick around for so long because it changes with the times, offering each generation what they need.

To celebrate the milestone Porsche have released an evolution video, showing each subtle change as the years go by. The most dramatic changes happened in the changeover from 993 to 996, but there were some significant ones both before and after that switch.

Check out the video below and let us know what year birthed your favourite shape.
